What is a prepaid cremation?

A prepaid cremation allows you to arrange and pay for your own cremation in advance.

All you need to do is phone Fixed Price Cremations, document your wishes and pay the price offered today.

When you die, whether it’s in 5 years or 50 years, your family contacts us and we carry out the services included in your agreement.

There are no other charges for you or for your family. Your cremation is taken care of and the ashes delivered to the contact you choose.

The Fixed Price Cremations prepaid cremation plan is designed for people who want a simple, private cremation rather than a traditional funeral with a chapel service, funeral vehicles and other formal elements.

There is no funeral ceremony, but that does not prevent your family from remembering you in their own way. Once your ashes have been returned, they can hold a gathering, visit a meaningful place, scatter your ashes or do something quiet and personal.

Unlike funeral insurance, a prepaid cremation is not simply a cash benefit that may or may not cover the cost of a funeral. It is an agreement for a specified cremation service. You also only pay once, as opposed to losing your cover if you miss a payment or facing rising premiums.

You can make any preferences ahead of time or leave them to decide. Prepaying simply takes care of the practical arrangements in advance.

What does the $2,135 prepaid plan include?

Our cremation packages are completely all-inclusive.

Optional urns, keepsakes and scattering tubes are available to purchase separately, but there is no expectation to purchase them.

How the prepaid price is calculated

There is nothing further for your family to pay for the services included in a fully paid plan. An additional cost would only apply if your family requests something outside your agreement or if circumstances arise that are not covered by the plan.

Why choose a prepaid cremation?

The cost of funeral and cremation services can increase over time.

By paying in advance, you secure the services listed in your prepaid agreement at today’s price. Even if those services cost more when the time comes, your family will not pay a single cent more.
Even the most affordable cremation can add financial stress to a family.

Money held in a bank account or forming part of an estate may not be immediately available after someone dies. A prepaid plan means the agreed cremation has already been paid for, rather than leaving your family to come up with funds at an already stressful time.
Families are not always certain what someone would have wanted. They may disagree about whether to arrange a burial, cremation or traditional funeral. It can bring them some comfort to know they have honoured your wishes.

A prepaid cremation documents your choice clearly. Your family knows which provider to contact, what you have selected and what has already been paid for.

You can also tell them what you would like to happen to your ashes, although those personal memorial arrangements are separate from our cremation package.
Grief can make even simple decisions feel difficult.

Planning ahead means your family will not need to compare providers, interpret your wishes or make major financial decisions immediately after your death. They simply contact Fixed Price Cremations and we guide them through what happens next.
Planning in advance gives you time to read the information, ask questions and make a considered decision.

You do not need to complete everything in one conversation. Our team can explain the plan and give you the time you need to decide whether it is right for you. There’s no pressure, and there’s no urgency.

Foresters Financial

Regulated funeral fund

Where is your money held?

Your prepaid funds are securely invested with Foresters Financial, a regulated funeral fund, in your name.

The arrangement is established between you, Fixed Price Cremations and Foresters Financial. Fixed Price Cremations cannot access the funds until the agreed cremation service is required.

Once your plan has been established and the funds lodged, you will receive a certificate confirming your prepaid cremation arrangement. Keep this certificate with your important documents and make sure your next of kin, solicitor or executor knows where to find it.

This structure protects the money and provides certainty about what it is intended to pay for.

Prepaid cremation and the Age Pension assets test

Funeral costs paid in advance normally do not count towards the Services Australia assets test, although exceptions can apply.

This may be helpful for some people receiving, or preparing to apply for, an Age Pension or another means-tested payment.

Your individual circumstances matter. You should confirm the current rules with Services Australia or seek independent financial advice before making a decision based on the assets test.

Prepaid cremation or funeral insurance?

A prepaid cremation plan and funeral insurance are not the same.

Prepaid cremation

Pays for a specified cremation service

The service is selected in advance

The included service is locked in at today’s price

No medical questions or restrictions

Your family knows which provider to contact

Payment ends when the plan is paid in full

Funds are held for your cremation

Once paid, we honour the cremation

Funeral insurance

Provides an agreed cash benefit

Funeral arrangements are generally made after death

The eventual payout may not reflect the actual funeral costs

Eligibility and premiums depend on the policy

Your family must still select and engage a provider

Premiums may continue for many years

The payout may be used for different expenses

Miss a payment and you could lose your insurance

A prepaid cremation may suit you if you already know that you want a direct cremation and would prefer to settle the arrangements now.

If you already have funeral insurance, do not cancel it based only on this information. Review your policy, consider what you have already paid and obtain independent financial advice if needed.

You can always call our team for advice if you’re unsure.
